Failed renewals

When Fianto cannot take a renewal, how often it tries again, what "Past due" means, and how to fix it before the subscription ends.

4 min read

Fianto takes each renewal from your wallet automatically, every 30 days or every 365 days, as the shop's price sets. When a renewal cannot be taken for a reason on your side, the subscription becomes "Past due" in the portal and Fianto tries again a few times. If the 4th counted try fails, the subscription ends.

When Fianto tries

Fianto tries each renewal 2 minutes after the period ends, then 1 hour, 6 hours and 24 hours after the period ends, when nothing delays those tries. That is up to 4 counted tries. If a delay that is not your doing pushes a try back, the next one keeps its gap from the last failure.

Which failures count

Only four reasons count against your subscription:

  • your wallet does not hold enough USDC,
  • your wallet's shared approval for the Solana Subscriptions program no longer lets Fianto take the payment,
  • your wallet's USDC account is frozen,
  • your wallet's USDC account no longer exists.

Any other failure is not counted: Fianto tries again every 5 minutes. One exception: if the renewal is refused because you already cancelled the subscription on Solana, from your wallet or another app, Fianto records that as your cancel and does not try again. If the shop's account or app is switched off, Fianto waits an hour at a time before trying again, and that never ends your subscription.

The first counted failure makes the subscription "Past due". A later successful try makes it "Active" again. The 4th counted failure ends it, and the portal says "It ended because Fianto could not take a payment from this wallet after several tries."

No back-billing

A period that Fianto could not collect is never billed later. Each try takes the same price, plus the service fee when it is above zero, and Fianto pays the network fee for it.

Before you start

  • You are signed in to the portal, at fianto.xyz/my, with the wallet that pays the subscription. See Your subscriptions.

Steps

Read why the renewal failed

Open the subscription. Its status reads "Past due", with the reason for a recent try that counted against it, and when Fianto will try again: "Fianto will try again on" a date "to take the overdue payment".

Fix the cause

  • Not enough USDC: add USDC to the wallet before the next try.
  • USDC account frozen: contact the shop.
  • Shared approval no longer allows it, or USDC account closed: renew the approval, in the next step. For a closed account, the wallet needs a USDC account again first.

Renew the approval, when the portal offers it

The portal offers Renew approval only when the subscription is past due, the latest counted failure was the approval or the closed USDC account, and no cancel is scheduled. Before you sign, it explains what renewing does:

  • The approval is one approval, shared by every Solana subscription this wallet holds in USDC, across every shop. Renewing it re-enables every one of those subscriptions, in any shop, Fianto's or not, including any you had stopped through your wallet.
  • Your wallet may show it with no amount limit of its own. Each subscription's own record on Solana still limits Fianto to that subscription's amount per period.
  • Once it is confirmed, Fianto soon tries the missed payment again, without asking you again. When other Fianto subscriptions on this wallet share the approval, the portal adds that Fianto does the same for any of them that was held up for this reason.
  • Your wallet pays a small Solana network fee in SOL.

Press Approve in wallet within 30 seconds and approve the transaction.

Renewing affects every subscription on the wallet

Renewing the approval is not limited to the subscription you are looking at. It brings forward the held-up tries of every Fianto subscription on this wallet, and it does not reset how many tries are left.

Check it worked

After renewing, the portal says "This wallet's approval is renewed. Fianto will try the missed payment again shortly; reload this page later to see the result." Once a try succeeds, the subscription shows "Active" again.
