# Create your shop (/merchants/shop-create)

The wizard creates your shop in four steps: what you sell, the shop's name, a theme and the
products it shows. Everything it asks can be changed later in the editor, except that the name is
yours to rename only once every 30 days.

## Before you start [#before-you-start]

* Your account is approved. Before approval you can still go through the wizard: its last button
  reads "Start editing", the design is saved on this device only, and you create the shop after
  approval ("Create your shop from the draft saved on this device").
* You have at least one active product with an active price, under **Products**. See
  [Products and prices](/merchants/products-and-prices). Before approval the wizard shows sample
  products, tagged "Sample".
* Your support email is set, in **Settings** → "Checkout" → "Support email". Buyers see it on the shop
  and on their receipt, and replies to Fianto's buyer email go to it.

## Steps [#steps]

**Step 1.**

### Open Shop [#open-shop]

In the sidebar, under **Billing**, click **Shop**, then **Create your shop** ("Pick a name and a
look, then publish when you are ready."). **Back to Shop** leaves the wizard.

**Step 2.**

### Say what you sell [#say-what-you-sell]

"What do you sell?": pick at least one of "Digital products", "Services", "Memberships",
"Software" or "Support and tips". It sets the starting kind of your products; "You can change this
for each product later."

**Step 3.**

### Choose a name [#choose-a-name]

The name is your address: `https://<name>.fianto.xyz`. Use 3 to 30 characters: lowercase letters,
numbers and single hyphens, starting and ending with a letter or number. The wizard checks the name
as you type ("Checking…") and says "This name is available." when it is free. If it cannot check,
it says "Could not check this name now. You can still go on."

Some names are reserved:

* a reserved name on its own, for example `admin`, `api`, `checkout`, `docs`, `shop`, `store`,
  `pay`, `blog` or `status`, and `www` followed only by digits (`www1`);
* any name that contains one of `login`, `signin`, `signup`, `wallet`, `verify`, `recover`, `refund`,
  `airdrop`, `password`, `phantom`, `solflare`, `metamask`, `fianto`, `fiant`, `f1ant` or `flant`;
* any name with `admin`, `support`, `checkout`, `claim`, `solana`, `usdc`, `billing`, `security`,
  `payouts`, `invoices` or `status` as a whole part between hyphens: `my-admin` is reserved,
  `badminton` is not.

A name another shop uses, or used before a rename, is taken.

**Step 4.**

### Pick a theme [#pick-a-theme]

"Pick a style. You can change colours and fonts later." The ten themes are drawn with your shop's
own name and first product, with a live preview of the one you pick: Ledger (the first pick),
Broadsheet, Console, Poster, Cloud, Swiss, Studio, Atelier, Zine and Blueprint.

**Step 5.**

### Choose your products [#choose-your-products]

"Choose what your shop shows. You can change this later." Each product has a checkbox (labelled "Show", its name,
"in your shop"), its prices, a "Kind" and a "Message to the buyer", pre-filled with
"Suggested text. Replace it with your own." Click **Create shop**.

## Check it worked [#check-it-worked]

> The editor opens on your new shop, tagged "Draft", with your address in its top bar. Nobody can
> visit it until you publish: see [Publish and manage your shop](/merchants/shop-publish).

## Troubleshooting [#troubleshooting]

| You see | Why | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| "Another shop uses this name. Pick another one." | Another shop has this name, or had it before a rename (old names keep redirecting). | Pick another name. |
| "This name is reserved. Pick another one." | The name is reserved, contains a reserved word such as "fianto" or "wallet", or has a reserved part such as "admin" between hyphens. | Pick another name. |
| The Shop page offers no "Create your shop" | Your account already has a shop: there is one per account. | Click Edit shop to change it. |
| The pre-approval design is gone | Another account signed in on this browser, which deletes shop drafts that are not its own. | Run the wizard again. |
